Inbox Detox

I have five e-mail accounts: work, private (family & friends), public (general online presence), garbage (my gmail account), and secret (when I don't want the recipient to know it's me).  It's all managed by rules.

Work and private are checked three times a day, but I can scan them on my iPhone as well if a have a dull moment, and public is checked once a day.

Garbage is only checked if i am expecting something (a one-time transaction), and secret is only checked when I'm actively incognito.

i differentiate between scanning e-mails (iPhone) and checking them (laptop).  When I check e-mails it's either respond, forward, delete, or file.  But nothing stays in the inbox after it's checked.

I totally agree with Julia about just calling.  I hate it when someone writes an email expecting a response five minutes later (typical behavior of all you Crackberry types).  If you need my immediate attention, give me a call.

Julia, this episode makes me feel bad about what I'm about to do! Yeah, I'm sending you an email. In about 5 minutes. But it's related to a good cause; I promise. The email address starts with my name, so look out for it, and hopefully I'll hear back from you before a month from now :)

i have 4 different emails and i just cant check them all so i got a fuser account which is easy to get so now i go and log in at fuser.com and read all my four emails and check on myspace and facebook its amazing so i havent gone to yahoo or aol or gmail any more it very efficient

use filters on gmail, or the smart folders on mail for macs.
Personally I like the mail update every minute so you don't have to spend a large hunk of time going through 20-30 emails after a few hours so you can take the emails as they come.
