How to save a pet? Adopt!
5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ADOPTING A PET
· Pets from animal shelters or pet rescue centers are not “bad.” Pets available for adoption at shelters are homeless, lost or abandoned or victims of unlucky circumstances. They weren’t discarded due to bad behavior.
· Adopting adult pets from shelters can reduce discipline and training problems. Most shelters and rescues have adult dogs and cats that can be adopted. Older animals’ personalities are already developed, so it’s easy to choose an animal based on specific personality characteristics.
· Its okay if you don’t know exactly what type of pet you’re looking for. It can be overwhelming searching for a pet, but many shelters and humane societies provide adoption counseling services. Pet adoption counselors can help you choose the right animal to fit your lifestyle.
· If you adopt from a shelter, you are saving lives. Not only will you be giving one pet a better life, but by adopting from a rescue center or a humane society you are opening another spot for a homeless animal to stay until he can be adopted by a loving family.
