I'm a gadget geek and blogger (GizmoLovers.com) and I normally love shiny new toys - but the iPhone left me flat. It is shiny and sexy, but after using a co-worker's iPhone for a while I found I really preferred my trusty Treo 680. I use my 'phone' more for PDA functionality and email and that just isn't there on the iPhone. Typing on the screen doesn't compare to a real keyboard. And the lack of cut & paste is inexcusable.
Sure the Treo has a smaller screen (320x320 instead of 480x320) and the browser isn't as good, but I really don't spend my time surfing the web. I don't care if YouTube works or not. I do have SlingPlayer Mobile, which is still in development for the iPhone, so I can access my Slingbox any time I want. (Full disclosure, I'm a Beta Program Manager for Sling Media, but I was a customer for a year before I joined the company this April.) For what I do the Treo is simply a better device. Sexy only goes so far if there aren't any brains to back it up. ;-)
Some of it may be my attachment to Palm OS, I've been a user since my Palm IIIx in 1998. I've had the IIIx, a Handspring Visor Deluxe, a Sony Clie NZ-90, a Palm Treo 650, and now my Treo 680. But I'm not that attached - I'm very interested in Android. I'm tempted to jump on the T-Mobile G-1, but I think I'll wait to see what other phones come out so I can take my pick. And I also like Google's open approach to their application store, as opposed to Apple's control freak mentality.
Another reason I don't like the iPhone, I have a 60GB iPod and that fits nearly all of my music collection. (I recently finally busted the limit, I used to be able to fit the whole thing on there.) I like having any track in my collection on hand when I'm out. I dumped my old 20GB U2 iPod because it was too small, and going back to that with the iPhone would just be too much of a sacrifice. I'd sooner by the 120GB iPod Classic than an iPhone - and I just might do that.
BTW, I watch TMI Weekly via my TiVo Series3 on my 61" DLP. You need to get TiVoCast in HD. ;-)
War story: I bought my iphone about a month ago off ebay...It arrived today! The guy I bought it off hardly replied to emails, changed his story literally 5 times and ended up blaming someone else. But I finally got it and am loving it!
It took me ten minutes to type one sentence while using one of the display iPhones at the 5th ave store. I was updating my FB status with "Typing on the new iPhone. It took me ten minutes to type this sentence"! haha
But I plan to someday switch over!!
Julia, I'm with you. I've been a Blackberry faithful for a long time. I'm generally unimpressed with the functions of the iPhone - to me, it's gimmicky and poorly thought out. The touch screen is a great idea but it's very badly utilized, and texting in particular is a nightmare on the damn things. And don't even get me started on the iPhone's notoriously bad battery drain...
oh but do you think the GPhone really hits the spot? :)

ha, ha..you are trendoids and are wasting your money and your time standing in line...ha, ha, ha!
iphones are lame and are for teenagers and grown ups who want to be perceived as cool.
you purchased too soon, girls.
the google phone is where it's at.

Blackberry all the way!!
I think the type of person who wants an iPhone versus the person who wants a Blackberry/Treo (I think of them as similar) are two very different people. The devices have different goals. I'm very email/text heavy, I know a touch screen would drive me crazy. I need the tactile response of a keyboard when I'm power-typing. Plus, I don't think I would take advantage of all the cool apps of the iPhone. I'm more practical with my cell phone.
That's exactly the reason I've stuck with my Treo. If you're more about email, SMS, etc, than surfing the web and playing with video devices with an actual keyboard are much better than touchscreen devices.
