What is the correct etiquette to use while texting your significant other or your booty call? Is it ok to abbreviate? What about spelling errors? See what advice Julia, Meghan and Mary have to give and let the texting begin! Less[-]
I love sms and am so glad everyone else is finally catching on. I used to be the friend that would text you and you would bitch at me for it because it cost you 10 cents just to receive it.
Great episode ladies.
I like the idea about your phone having a breathalizer. That would have been very helpful in college.
Some friends of mine have a book coming out in April called "Flirtexting." It's funny how texting has been a big part of dating, etc for years, but only just recently has it started to really be recognized by the general public and media. You can check out their website and blog at www.flirtexting.com.
My comment got deleted, too, and, while it had nothing to do with textiquette, it was a pretty important observation, both for the NonSociety brand and for the Internet Generation. Let me try to make it relevant:
Mary, when you homophobically text a friend that something is "gay," do you spell it G-A-Y or the hip, new No-Homo G-H-E-Y?
heres a fun one:
my ex bf: do u think we qualify as long distance?
me: you can get your ass in a car and drive 20 minutes to see me.
this guy was like an idiot marathon. i would get these ones like
"y does sarah (his best friend.) think ur a bitch?"
"do u rly want to do something on your bday?"
"y do u want 2 talk 2 me all the time?"
gah. it's actually hilarious now...
If I am dating a new guy and he texts me to ask me out (instead of calls me) I don't respond. I think it is okay to text to say "almost there" or "running 5 mins late" but texting to ask someone to do something isn't cool.
As for the abbreviation, I'm with Mary. U versus You, who cares? It is easier. Plus, maybe he/she abbreviated so they had more characters to say something sweet. There are only 140 you know...
Mary, your new hair is awesome. Don't be discouraged by JA's passive-aggressive "frenemy" reactions and responses.
I have a bob too and you have totally inspired me to go even shorter.
Chic, stylish, modern and really sexy! Bravo!
LOL, that's hysterical.
Did you text "Thank you" back?

I left a comment yesterday and it got deleted. I am just curious to know what the commenting policy is for Next New Networks? Is it the same as on Nonsociety, where any comment that does not compliment Julia, Meghan or Mary is deleted?
The commenting policy on TMI Weekly as well as other Next New Networks' shows is that we encourage people to contribute to the conversation, as long as the comments are constructive and related to topic. If you don't agree with the topic, feel free to comment and let us know your opinion and how we can make the show better. We will not tolerate any profanity or personal attacks. Please keep the comments relating to the show topics. Thanks.

So which is it?
A. "keep the comments relating to the show topics"
B. "If you don't agree with the topic, feel free to comment and let us know your opinion"
You are contradicting yourself.

Kasey,
What we mean is that if you disagree with something on the show, we want to know why i.e. you think it's ok to misspell texts or you don't even like texting at all! The comments that get removed are of nothing relating to the show or context of the topic and/or contain personal attacks / profanity. We remove these because they are of no value to the episode. Therefore it is possible to disagree with their personal opinion on the specific topic yet keeping your answer still relating to the episode.

"Therefore it is possible to disagree with their personal opinion on the specific topic yet keeping your answer still relating to the episode."
Could you please be a little clearer in explaining yourself? This sentence makes no sense at all!

Why are you being so difficult? It's obvious what the moderators are trying to say.
FOR EXAMPLE:
If the episode is about why you should incorporate juicing into your diet
You may disagree and comment about how you think juice is gross and not healthy for you at all.
THAT is still topical. Commenting negatively on their appearance or referencing their personal blogs is NOT.
You should be banned, you have nothing constructive to say at all.

Why should she (or anyone, for that matter) be banned for asking questions? It's a little ridiculous for anyone to start a business and expect criticism to be banished, ignored or deleted. People reference personal blogs because sometimes things said in TMI episodes (the "product") contradict stances "made" by the very hosts (via their very accessible personal blogs - which ARE connected to TMI since it came AFTER Nonsociety, which is nothing more than a mashup of said PERSONAL blogs), or the general product in and of itself isn't satisfying. There are no forums to air grievances and emails related to the issue apparently aren't responded to - so what else are people to do? It's their FANS giving constructive criticism, so the fact that they're willing to either remove it entirely or make corrections without acknowledging where they were wrong in the first place and WHY (the upset reader) such changes came about speaks volumes. People will comment where they know their words will be seen, even if not acknowledged. As their "fans" have noticed they don't respond to emails but are quick to put up excuses/defenses or delete concerned posts, they found a new area to express what they're feeling. How can a business be successful if you want to build community/a following while ignoring the very people you want to attract?
Seriously, changing policies isn't the solution when the real problem is the many issues within the organization itself. You cannot expect to create something of this nature while refusing to take responsibility for what you put out there and address the problems your "viewers" (who eventually in this case, you would hope, will love you enough to secure your living expenses through their loyalty) have with things the way they are. Even less so if you want to make money/a living out of it.

My comment was topical and did not have profanity or personal attacks. It was about standards for spelling in texts vs. blog posts. Why was it deleted then, accoding to your policy? Or is the policy that all critical comemnts are deleted, even if topical and polite, as that seems to be what was followed when it came to my comment.
If you are not going to allow anything but praise please spell that out clearly in your moderation policy (which really should be posted permanently above the comment box.) Don't let people waste their time thinking their voice will be heard only to have their comments deleted for no pre-explained reason.

Yeah it is also not mature to constantly bombard sites you do not like to argue with moderaters or viewers about nothing.

I don't moderate the comments, but I think it's obvious from past episodes that they allow plenty of criticism about the topic and us.
You are all regulars here, so you should understand the policy by now.
We are trying to cultivate a forum where people can discuss the topic at hand. If you have comments about us personally, we want to hear them too. But at least attempt to be constructive. It's not easy to put ourselves "out there."
posted 3 years ago by Mary Rambin
I ask this in all sincerity: Mary if it's so hard to put yourself "out there" then why do you do it? What is the ultimate goal or outcome of you participating in this venture? Have the benefits outweighed the setbacks? Ultimately, what do you hope to gain or accomplish?

My video player keeps stopping right after Mary goes all homophobe eight seconds in.
Disappointment all around.
i have the worst phone in the world - the BB pearl and its so frustrating to have to type because all the letters are consolidated. if im typing something wrong and it corrects it to a wrong word, i just leave it if the person can figure it out. it takes too long to go back and fix it. also i think abbreviating is fine. keep the texts short. if you stop being someones friend or stop dating someone because they abbreviate or spell wrong (unintentionally) you have issues. chances are they aren't going to have the same phone for the rest of their lives therefore its a temporary problem.
