TMIWeekly bares it all as they wear as little makeup as possible for this special episode. Julia wears her full regalia, Meghan her patented red lipstick, and Mary braves the Internet with NO MAKEUP. Less[-]
I am also That Girl who has been wearing make-up for over half my life -- and I'm only 21 years old. I had terrible skin from the age of about 10 (thanks, Mum and Dad) and discovering concealer and cover-up was like discovering the Rosetta Stone. Admittedly, it took about 6 years for me to figure out how to apply cover-up correctly and I cringe when I see pictures of my grade 9 self, my face plastered in a coat of CoverGirl cover-up so thick I look like I belong in a wax museum.
Now that my skin problems have calmed down, I wear less foundation type make-up and concentrate on my eyes. My eyes are my best feature and my inner self-esteem suicide bomber is constantly reminding me that if people aren't directed to focus on my beautiful eyes, they'll focus on the rest of me and I just don't want that.
On a less depressing note, I've recently become obsessed with protecting my skin from the sun. This is a very healthy obsession and everyone should try to get addicted! Your 50-year-old self will thank you.
P.S. Julia, this is for you: http://www.divinecaroline.com/22191/73249-ten-things-i-d-love-tell
I've been wearing makeup too since my early teen years and rarely go without it. I definitely feel self-conscious bare faced, so I'll throw on my prescription glasses or sunglasses to distract from my dark undereye circles just for running to the store! I agree with Julia that being tan can go a long way .. everyone looks better tan, less makeup is needed, maybe just some mascara. Which is why I think Meghan can pull off the no makeup look better than Mary (or my pale self) because of her darker complexion!
I've been wearing makeup virtually every day of my life since age 11 (that's a lot of days). I AM "that wierd girl who can't leave the house without makeup". I even wear makeup to teach my aerobics dance class. I'm simply not comfortable without it.
My boyfriend is constantly telling me I don't need all that makeup and that I look better without it. He may even be sincere (bless his bad eyesight), but I'm incapable of going a day without it. But here's the scary part: I used to be able to put on makeup and get the desired (positive), predictable result.
Now that I'm Middle Aged, I put on a lot of makeup and look like...a female impersonator! It's frightening. If you're young, just be happy that you can wear makeup - or not - and still look decent!
I feel very self conscious without make-up. Even if I'm running to the grocery store I'll throw on a smudge of eyeliner and some mascara. I think it's mainly with my eyes, though. I just wear chapstick and a little bit of bronzer, but do my eyes up. I feel like I have small little shark eyes and short, straight eyelashes. Even looking at my own self in the mirror without some form of eye enhancement seems weird and naked to me. I have gone without makeup around others or in some photos, but looking back people always remark how different my eyes look and the pictures just stand out (in a bad way) to me.
To me, Megan looked the exact same, maybe a little less lipstick after she wiped it off. Mary looked almost the same, maybe a little paler. If you can get away with that - then great. But, I think I probably would have done what Julia did - still clung tight to my make-up because I do feel like I look so different without it.
I am in a relationship and have lived with my boyfriend for about 2.5 years, so obviously he's seen me in all states of done up, and no make-up. I think it is crap when guys say they don't notice, because there are times he'll notice if I change my eyeshadow brand, or if I switch up the way I line my eyes. They aren't as oblivious as they'd like us to think. But, to be fair, he compliments me equally in make-up as without, so I never feel like I HAVE to wear make-up, it's just a personal preference.
I was laughing so hard at your description of your "small little shark eyes."
I'm really weird about makeup - 90% of the time I refuse to wear ANY (I'm trying to teach myself about the concept of "just a little mascara and blush"), but when I go on camera, or out to an event, it's full on. I don't really do makeup halfway ...
Although I was recently on vacation and I tried wearing just a bit of eyeliner and mascara out to dinner. I loved it. But then again, I was tan and there were no cameras.
In the end, you should just do what makes you feel best - who cares what anyone else thinks?!

The awkward thing about throwing out the bit about shading to make up for no jaw line: what started out as something about Julia's face looking a bit off turned into noticing nothing but the shaded area and how it didn't budge when her jaw did - kinda like when I have 5:00 shadow. And that, ladies, is what some of us find so wrong about makeup.
On the other hand, did you notice how much more expressive Mary seemed? BTW, you still look great without.
I was really pumped to do this episode because I had been loving not wearing makeup in Houston. But! When I go to LA and NYC and I'm in more social situations, I feel the pressure to put it on. I wish I was like Meghan where you could never really tell the difference.
And! I wanted to call BS on the boys who say they don't LIKE it. Not that they can't tell the difference, but that they PREFER girls without it. Not buying it.
The conclusion that "natural" makeup is best has always been my philosophy.

(btw, sorry I kept fiddling with my collar! That thing wouldn't stay put.)
i love the screencap for this episode : )
i was never taught how to wear makeup ... so i just don't wear any now (bad excuse? probably). i'm 26 and the only items i have in my "makeup case" are mascara, a light blush and chapstick.
